Poffertjes! Pancakes of Pure Petite Pleasure!

Poffertjes, pronounced "poh-fur-chuhs," are miniature pancakes with a twist. These delectable delights are often made with yeast and boast a soft and spongy texture, making them a favorite indulgence at festivals, markets, and cozy cafés across the Netherlands. While they may resemble typical pancakes, poffertjes hold a special place in Dutch culinary traditions, providing a unique taste experience that is impossible to resist.

Poffertjes are typically made with yeast and you have to plan ahead in order to fit the 1 hour rising time in before breakfast... I "cheated" and used the Koopmans Poffertjes mix. No rising time required! Grab your poffertjes pan and a squeeze bottle and go!

Just add 800ml of milk, 2 eggs and 2 Tbsp of oil.

The common topping for poffertjes is simply butter and powdered sugar, I have a few fun suggestions for you to take these little puffy pancakes to a new level!

Berry Fruity!

Here in southern BC strawberries and blueberries are ripe and plentiful!
Experiment with other flavour combos: pina colada, melon, apple, tropical etc.

Caramel Churro!

When fresh from the pan coat your poffertjes in cinnamon sugar then drizzle or dunk into a warm caramel! This combination adds a subtle crunch and a boost of richness.

Chocolatey Smore!

Enjoy the gooey delight of toasted marshmallows with chocolate sprinkles (hagelslag) and chocolate spread. These will transport you back to childhood memories of cozy nights and bonfires.

Savory Smoked Salmon!

For those who crave something savory, the smoked salmon skewers with cream cheese and chives will hit the spot. The smoky richness of the salmon, combined with the creamy and tangy flavors of cream cheese and chives, create an irresistible harmony of tastes.

Whether you stick to one flavour or put out a variety, you can make the humble poffertjes something to remember!

The churro ones were a hit at our breakfast themed dinner party! They went well with a chocolate dip!
